Pua Kala

A close-up of the stamen, pistil and stigma of pua kala, the native Hawaiian Poppy (Argemone glauca), the only endemic Hawaiian plant that has not lost its ability to produce toxins and thorns. This specimen grows in the heiau at the mouth of Kalalau Stream on Kaua’i.
