Uluhe Curls

The fronds of indigenous ‘uluhe ferns (Dicranopteris linearis) repeat a bifurcating branching pattern that often terminate in double curls. ‘Uluhe grow on steep mountain slopes and are crucial in holding the forces of erosion in check. This specimen grows in the Kohala mountains on the Big Island of Hawai’i.
