Maia Pilo Flowers

Delicate, white lacy stamened blossoms of maia pilo (Capparis sandwichiana) sprout from low tough shrubs growing on barren a'a lava fields in Makena on Mau'i. Maia pilo flowers open in the early evening and can be enjoyed at night or in the early morning before they whither and change from white to pink in the heat of the day.
