Giant Age - Old Koa Tree

The massive trunk of this giant age-old koa tree (Acacia koa) twists itself back upright again within Kapapala Forest Reserve along the Ainapo Trail that leads to the summit of Mauna Loa. This time-worn endemic tree was knocked over in the distant past by strong winds that are known to buffet the slopes of Mauna Loa.
