Alula Flowers
An anole lizard rests on a flowering
alula (Brighamia insignis) within Limahuli Garden on Kaua’i,
which is part of the National Tropical Botanical Garden. This
endemic plant was saved from certain extinction by biologists
who rappelled off the cliffs overlooking the Na Pali Coast to
pollinate the last remaining alula plants. Efforts are being
made to grow and multiply this endangered plant.
