‘Ama’u Fiddlehead

The recursive spiral of this endemic ‘ama’u fern (Sadleria cyantheoides) grows along a cliff overlooking Kalalau Valley in Koke’e, Kaua’i. As this tightly-wound fiddlehead unfurls, it transforms itself into a dark green fern frond.
