Haleakala Silverswords

The silverswords of Haleakala bloom only once during their lifetime. Their flower stalks can be 6-feet high with hundreds of maroon sunflower-like flowers. This sub-species of silversword (Argyroxiphium sandwicense macrocephalum) is endemic only to Haleakala and has been brought back from the very brink of extinction.
